How to look after
Boehlkea fredcochui
Cochu's Blue Tetra
Géry, 1966

(Other members of the genus Boehlkea)

ADULT SIZE: 4 cm

WATER CONDITIONS: Not critical

TEMPERATURE RANGE: 23-26 C

FOOD: Feed Boehlkea fredcochui small live-foods and fine grade dried foods

DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Brazil, Colombia

AQUARIUM CARE: This Amazonian tetra likes a nice dark tank, well planted, but with some open water for swimming. If breeding is to be attempted, broad-leaved plants are also advisable, as these will be used as a spawning substrate by the female.

BREEDING: Soft water is required for breeding this species. The female lays pre-fertilised eggs on the underside of leaves, so having broadleafed plants such as Anubias is an advantage. The leaf can simply be removed to allow the fry to be raised separately. Paramecium is best offered as a first food for the fry.
