WATER CONDITIONS: Not critical
TEMPERATURE RANGE: 20-25 C
FOOD: Feed Corydoras sterbai small live-foods and fine grade dried foods
DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Brazil, Bolivia
AQUARIUM CARE: This is one of the most popular catfish species seen in the aquarium hobby. Like all Cory's, C. sterbai should be kept in a small shoal of at least six individuals. Although most specimens seen in the aquarium trade are hardy captive bred fish, a clean tank with well oxygenated water is essential. Special attention should be paid to the substrate. Dirty gravel will have a detrimental affect, often leading to infections of the barbels. A typical tank set-up should include bog wood, and maybe leaf-litter over a sand or fine gravel bottom.
C. sterbai is a good community fish with peaceful species of a similar size. Avoid aggressive bottom dwellers.
BREEDING: An easily spawned species, with eggs laid on the tank glass. Spawning can often be induced with a large water change of cooler water.
