WATER CONDITIONS: Moderately hard and alkaline

FOOD: Feed Lamprologus ocellatus small live-foods and fine grade dried foods
DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Lake Tanganyika
AQUARIUM CARE: This Tanganyikan cichlid is one of the shell-dwelling species, and each fish should be given a large snail shell in the aquarium. The fish will partially bury this shell and hide inside. It is very small as cichlids go, and well suited to the home aquarium. In the wild, it inhabits the sandy shore areas of Lake Tanganyika, using discarded Neothauma tanganicensis snail shells. This cichlid likes to live in groups; both with its own kind, and other shell dwellers.
BREEDING: The snail shells that this cichlid retreats into are also caves in which eggs are laid. Eggs hatch after around 9 days.
