WATER CONDITIONS: Moderately soft and acidic
TEMPERATURE RANGE: 25-28 C
FOOD: Feed Rasbora maculata small live-foods and fine grade dried foods. Live foods are naturally preferred, and regular feedings are greatly appreciated.
DISTRIBUTION: This species comes from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore
AQUARIUM CARE: Rasbora maculate is a tiny fish, but quite attractive with strong body and fin colouration. It hails from slow moving streams and blackwater marshes in South East Asia. As such it should not be kept in a tank with excessive water movement
This very small species prefers a dark tank, well planted, with some floating plants and no boisterous tankmates. In fact a species tank is probably better for this small and delicate Rasbora. Leaf litter may be placed at the bottom of the tank, to add tanins to the tank water, replicating their natural blackwater habitat.
BREEDING: This species can be bred in a well planted species tank, and if the adults are well fed, they will not be too predatory towards their offspring. Regular feeding of newly hatched artemia nauplii will keep adults happy, and greatly increase the chance, and number of fry reaching adulthood.
